John Reagan
Our lives are shaped by the choices we are able to make for ourselves and our families. Government taxation reduces the choices we can afford to make for ourselves. Bureaucrats often make bad or uninformed choices for people. The government takes our money and spends it on programs we would not choose as priorities for spending.
NH House from Rockingham County One
Representative John Reagan is a first term New Hampshire State Representative serving Candia, Deerfield, Northwood and Nottingham. Reagan is a member of the Executive Departments and Administration Committee dealing with all licensing and regulation of all New Hampshire regulated occupations, gambling, all state employment and retirement issues including the New Hampshire Retirement System.
NH Retirement System Commission
According to Reagan the big challenge for his committee was to hear and consider the legislation proposed to reform the state retirement system. The system is funded at less than 62% and ranks in the 8th percentile of all public pension systems. Representative Reagan served as a Speaker’s appointee to the commission charged with repairing the badly managed fund. He was the Finance Sub-committee chairman and created the Reagan Amendment to stop some retirees from being awarded a pension not sufficiently funded to the detriment of all other members of the system. Reagan said, “I would like to return to the House to continue to work to stabilize the retirement system that so many state and local employees and teachers depend on. The costs of this poorly managed fund are a drain on state and local taxpayers.”
In July the House Speaker appointed Reagan to the commissions dealing with the retirement depletion schedules and a separate commission tasked with developing recommendations for a retiree health care model.
Joint Committee for Performance Audits
Representative Reagan is a member of the joint Senate/House Performance Audit and Oversight Committee. The purpose of performance audits is to measure how an agency is delivering the services they are obligated to deliver under New Hampshire Statute.
Deerfield Selectman, Planning Board
John also serves as a Selectman in Deerfield, New Hampshire and has served as a member of the town’s Planning Board. Deerfield is one of a four town House district with five representatives.
Service to 4-H
This year John was invited to be a judge at the regional and state 4-H competition to select contestants for the New England Exposition competition.
Financial Planner, retired fire officer
John is a financial planner and is retired from the Baltimore City Fire Department. Upon retirement is 1998 John returned to his New England roots
Representative Reagan, a former retail business owner, is sensitive to the plight of the taxpayer. Raising two children taught him an appreciation of reducing the burden of taxation to allow parents to have the resources needed to provide for a family.
