Greg Knytych
Thus we get to the core of my campaign: Fiscal Restraint and Responsibility.
Greg grew up in Mesa, Arizona and married his wife, Ruth, in Snowflake, AZ in 1978. The couple moved to Laconia, NH later that year. In 1981, Greg joined the U.S. Army and became a member of the Military Police. He was stationed at the Yuma Proving Grounds in AZ, in Germany, and Korea, and then returned to New Hampshire. Soon after, Greg and Ruth’s daughter, Kaylee was born.
Greg received a degree in Machining Technology from the Laconia Vocational Technical Institute (a precursor to Lakes Region Community College). The Knytych family then moved to Phoenix, AZ. Their second daughter, Taylor was born in AZ in 1990. While in AZ, Greg worked full time and went to school to get his degree in Business. His wife Ruth also got her 2nd degree from Phoenix College at that time.
Greg worked his way up through the Management ranks in at Leggett & Platt (a Fortune 500 Company), but the Knytych family realized they were happiest in New Hampshire. So they, along with Ruth’s mother, returned to our great state in 2000 and have lived here since.
Greg has always felt that it is important to give back to your community and while his girls were growing up, he and Ruth teamed up with some friends and started leading a Girl Scout Troop together. Before long they were in charge of the G.S. district they were in (called a Neighborhood) and provided training to other G.S. leaders. As Taylor became interested in sports and Greg was an assistant coach on her softball teams and later started working with the Lou Athanas Youth Basketball League. He was an assistant coach, division director and currently is the Vice President of the league. In 2007, Greg decided that the time was right to run for office and ran for Ward 1 City Councilor in Laconia.
Greg followed politics closely for many years and was shocked to see how poorly we were being represented at the state level. Greg decided to run for State Senate to bring New Hampshire values back to Concord.
Greg works for Transformer Service, Inc., an electrical maintenance company in Concord as the estimator/quoter and is also the IT Director for the company. As a City Councilor, Greg is working on the completion of the new middle school; getting lights on the Opechee and Leavitt Parks, allowing night use; the expansion and updating our Laconia’s central fire station; the purchase, renovation and opening of the Garden Theater in Downtown Laconia.
Additionally, construction has begun on the Riverwalk and the Winnipesaukee, Opechee, and Winnisquam (WOW) trail. Laconia has added a Police Detective to the department and made a commitment to expand rail service from Boston & Toronto into Downtown Laconia. All of these accomplishments have occurred without breaking Laconia’s Tax-Cap. Greg will bring that same commonsense, live within your means mentality to Concord.
